The Orioles and Astros have just made a trade sending SS Miguel Tejada to Houston in a six player deal:
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada finally got his wish for a change of scenery, as he was traded to the Houston Astros on Wednesday. In return for the four-time All-Star, the Orioles will get outfielder Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third baseman Michael Costanzo. Well, I almost like the Astros batting order more than I like the Cubs now that they have Hunter Pence, Tejada, Lance Berkman and Carlos Lee. Ugh. Here we go with the breakdown. The Orioles can plug Scott into left field, which means they are probably still looking for a center fielder. The rest of the guys, minus Costanzo, will plug into the pitching staff in one form or another. I looked up the stats on these guys and the scouting reports and it's a pretty decent haul for the Orioles. Still, it obviously this leaves Baltimore without a shortstop....Hello Ronny Cedeno.
Let's see how this works for the Cubs. The Cubs send Cedeno, Marshall, Patterson and Gallagher/Hart for Roberts. Will the Orioles do it? I would if I were them. It gives them a major league ready shortstop, a left handed starting pitcher to take over if Bedard leaves and two powerful right handers to do with what they want. Would the Cubs do it? It seems pretty obvious that the Cubs want Roberts to hit in the two hole and that would move DeRosa to the super utility man role that everyone wants him to play. If the Cubs were able to get Roberts, and all their players stayed healthy, they would have one of the best everyday lineups in the majors. With the Cubs not re-signing Mark Prior it opens up a little bit of payroll that could be used on Roberts contract.

That hot stove certainly is heating up!
I've always liked TeJaDa. He's not nearly what he used to be, but should still be pretty good for the Stros in the Juice Box.
Luke Scott could be a star, could be a trade that works out for both clubs.
'Bout time this offseason got interesting. Good timing with a week off for the Hoosiers too!
Giants just signed Rowand to a big deal, not long after a Peavy extension was announced. Lots of money getting thrown around today fo sho.
