One of my most respected colleagues in my fantasy baseball league just did the unthinkable......he traded Alfonso Soriano. When I got the email notifying me of the trade I just winced and wished I had been the one trading for Fonzi.
Year after year I tell this intelligent gentleman that he only needs to make it through a rough April with Soriano and then he will be repaid for his patience with a top fantasy player but....he couldn't wait. That's too bad since this is Soriano's line the last five games: .526 BA, 10-19, 6 runs, 2 doubles, 3 HR's, 7 RBI's
For some reason I have to believe that if this esteemed doctor would have waited just a little longer then he wouldn't have made the trade.....
We shall see with this trade...I was a little leary going in, but I feel that I tightened up my Pitching staff and I got a solid OF in return in Abreu.
I can't remember if you traded Sabathia, too....or got him in return for Maine? Also, there were catchers involved...Mauer and Soto?
I think Soriano will end up being a top-8 OF while Abreu might be a top-20, so we'll see.

I felt that Soriano is on the decline...I have had him for the last couple of years and he is a getting older...didn't score over 100 runs last years, only 70 rbi's and his stolen bases are dropping off which is usually a good indication that he is declining. I would say that you are right about Abreu...I pegged him as a top 20 OF. The trade was for Sabathia, Martin, and Soriano for Maine, Mauer, and Abreu...at first glance not the most balanced of trades, but Sabathia threw over 200 innings last year for the first time in 5 seasons...I think his arm is worn this year..
Sabathia's shutout and 11 strikeouts to go along with only giving up 1 run in his last 16 innings (two starts) last night beg to differ. I have him in another league and he had a really rough start to the season but has seemingly turned it around.
I'm just giving you a hard time. I know you've waffled about Soriano the past couple of years but I think if you would have put him on the market in our league, with the Cubs fans we have, you might have gotten back some more valuable pieces.
Mauer's lack of power scares me.

Must have been some team chemistry issues, because I can't imagine trading any of those guys for what was received in return via straight-up scenarios. With the weather in Cleveland warming up, I'd gladly take C.C. if someone was giving him away. Hopefully though, that team chemistry issue is solved and the 2nd tier players received will out-perform expectations.
I have to admit that the Captain is quite the motivator and could push those guys to the next level

Soriano is rubbing the salt in the wound today. 2 HR's and 4 RBI's in the first 2 innings.

It seems like Jack is indicating that Morgan takes Soriano but lets him go early in the year. If he keeps taking Soriano I want to believe it is because he sees the numbers and it makes sense, but if he keeps trading him early it seems that the lack of early production scares ol Captain off when he is in the throes of the season. that said, where is the patience? He plays in Chicago. it is cold early. Everybody comes on late in Chicago. It is the natural progression of things! Show some sac, buddy. Don't let these tricksters steal Soriano away from you! Who was the trade with? Someone is laughing.
