Hank is no Boss...

steinbrenner1_195.jpgBefore this year, I lived in NYC.  During my time there I learned a lot of things; Pop = soda, a regular slice is simply just cheese, the 2 hour window for a free transfer can make or brake your day, John Rocker wasn't exactly lying about the number 7 train, and George Steinbrenner will always make front page news with his comments about the Yankees.  Since then, his two son's Hal and Hank have taken over the franchise.  Hal is the soft spoken, "I don't give a shit, just give me my huge paycheck" type of guy and Hank is the outspoken, "I will say what I want, when I want" type of guy.

Is anyone else in this boat with me thinking that Hank is trying a bit too hard?  I mean, he clearly is no George, but I think he is desperately trying to be.  His most recent outburst consists of him saying they (the Yankees) have to "work our butts off."  My guess is if Hank was in my fantasy baseball league, he would get smoked.  I don't think he truly knows anything about baseball or simply sports for that matter.  By the way that he speaks, he sounds like the team manager for my 7th grade basketball team.  The guy that so much wanted to be a part of the team, but would have made a better bank teller than a point guard.  Hank needs to leave the baseball speak to the professionals.  Go back into your plush office and figure out how to suck more money out of the pockets of all the fans...that is what you are good at that is what you know.  It very much reminds me of the Bob Knight interview with Jeremy Schaap a few years ago..."You got a long way to go to be as good as your dad.  You better keep that in mind."

Sadly I've put some thought into this situation this season and here is what I've come up with....

I used to be a substitute teacher on Fridays when I was in college and we all know how kids act when the 'sub' is there. So, I would go into the classroom and the first thing I'd do is yell at them and then kick out at least one of them. Someone would ask to use the bathroom and I'd say 'No'. They'd ask me if they could move their seat and I'd say, "Sure, just take it down to the principal's office."

That let them know that I was in charge. After that they seemed to act normally and get their work done. Just like they were supposed to do.

I can only hope that this is what this Steinbrenner kid is doing now that he's at the helm.

On a side note, I was a highly recommended 'sub' by all the teachers and they would call me to request my services themselves because I could keep their classes in order.
