Cobra Brigade Post #1,000

By Jack Cobra  |  Comments (10) | Hype It Up!  |   Filed Under: Featured | Jack Cobra Archive | Misc.
millerinwater.jpgThat is not a typo. Since our 'soft launch' on May 10, 2007 we have posted 1,000 entries. One thousand posts divided by a leap year tells me that we've had about three posts a day for our year of existence. Not bad. Throw in the 6,300 comments we've had and.....well, I'm not sure what it means in the grand scheme of things.

For those of you who have read every entry and been here the entire time....good God you must be bored at work. Seriously though, Thanks. Even though we are shutting down soon, it has been quite a ride. From my initial post about Jason Marquis (what?) to our arguments about IU Basketball/Kelvin Sampson (give it a break) to our announcement that we'd be leaving....it's been fun....for the most part.

If I could do this all over again, which I won't be doing, I'd make this an 'invitation only' site because at times things got out of hand and to be honest with you.....we only really care about the people who read daily (or close to it). Obviously that doesn't mean that we'd have the 'hits' we had but I think we'd have a lot more fun with a smaller group of people. Hindsight is 20/20.

I hope that we've been able to give you some insight and make you laugh a little bit over the last year as well as being a time consumer for those of you at work. We really had no idea what we were doing when we started and.....we're not far from that still. We write what we think and we think what we write. Or something like that.

Anyways, enjoy the picture of Marisa Miller, she's the best, and thanks again for sticking around for so long.

wow - I am bored at work. Now I need to find something to fill that block since the bosses blocked the midget porn sites.

You should have made #1000 your last post. Just a thought.
Jack - congrats on the move, I may have a couple Cubs tix for sale if you are interested. With our store opening soon it doesn't look like I'll be able to go. (Game is on a Fri. in July vs. Giants)
Bruce - congrats on the move to Siberia/Minn
Cpt. - good luck down the road in your field
Buck - I'm sure I'll see you stumbling drunk down the streets sometime soon

That's if the lady will let you out of the house and then drive us around.

all the sports content and wacky stories about cougars and peep-eating contests are great, but the real thing i'll miss about this site is the cache of photos like that one.

i hope you don't take that personally.

Very impressive weekend for the Cubs against Arizona. All the ducks seem to be falling into their row.

That's a nice pic, Cobra.

So you really would prefer a small, invite-only site? You don't like all the hits you've gotten, and all the traffic? Or do you feel that maybe having all that traffic limited you in some ways from talking or posting on stuff you really wanted to post on? I'm just curious...

Oh, and congrats on 1,000! May you have many, um... may you have about 20 more!

If I started from scratch I would want a small, invite only site. The hits and stuff are nice but we were only going for those to try to get more than the rest of the people in the network. If I saw someone had a huge week we'd send in a link, otherwise we just laid back. We are a competitive bunch over here.

I think that if you talked to each of us individually you would hear us say that we'd prefer to stay in and have a bunch of friends over to our house to hang out instead of going out to party with a couple of thousand people. Of course, it's nice to go out from time to time and have a huge blowout but for the most part we just want to hang with your friends. I think if we had an invite only site it would show our readers that we appreciate their input and their audience more and they'd be more willing to support the site and make it their own.

Kind of like finding that fishing hole in the backyard of one of your friends grandparents house....or something like that.

I'm tired, none of that might have made sense.

Jack - Please tell me this Jim Edmunds rumor to the Cubs is not going to happen.

so you want me to blatantly lie to you?

SML....Ok, it's morning now and my mind is a bit less foggy.

First of all, the network has allowed us to write about whatever we felt like writing about, how we wanted to write about and when we wanted to write about. We couldn't be happier here.

We went after hits so that we could stay on the network. I'm not sure if Brian would ever boot someone who didn't get enough hits but we didn't want to get anywhere near that point. We felt lucky to be here and wanted to do a good job. We used the # of visits other sites rec'd as motivation to get others to our site.

We have had a lot of people come through our site but at the end of the day it's the small group that keeps coming back daily that is the one we write for (besides ourselves). I think that if we had an invite only site, with those people there, it would make everything feel a little more like home where we can be comfortable because we never know when a couple of thousand people might show up.

Of course we would be losing some of the visibility that being on a network brings with it but I think at this point our ego's have been massaged enough.
