While reading about the stupid phenomenon of throwing 15 balls onto the field I ran into this little nugget....
Speaking of guarantees, Carlos Zambrano guaranteed
Thursday morning that he'd hit the centerfield scoreboard with a home
run during batting practice this year. He hit one up into the upper
part of the centerfield bleachers on Tuesday night while taking BP
left-handed.
Told that no one had ever hit the scoreboard on the fly, other than
Sam Snead hitting a golf ball with his driver on this day back in 1951,
Zambrano just shrugged.
Sammy Sosa almost hit it a couple times, but the ball sailed just to the left of the board.
"You think Sammy Sosa is stronger than me?" Zambrano said Jesus Christ, can't Zambrano relax a little bit. Practicing with the MLS soccer team was scary enough after dealing with computer and cramping issues and now he's going to be trying to hit the fucking scoreboard? That thing is probably at least 550 feet away and I can just imagine Big Z hurting himself in BP as he tries to slug one ball after another up there. Do you see now why this guy can be frustrating?

Not watching the game but how long til Ted Lilly hits the dl with some mystery ailment like tired shoulder or elbow tendinitis?
Seems like it should happen soon since his velocity is down. Weird stuff
Zambrano might be batshit insane, but the dude can hit the ball hard, as I've witnessed him do many times against my 'stros.
Give me a small break...he is having fun, showing some passion. He has not ever been hurt, a la Prior and Wood.
The "retarded" comment is a bit over the top, too.
Thinking the 'retarded' comment is over the top is...over the top. Chill holmes
From an baseball analytical perspective it is very irresponsible of Zambrano to do something that could possibly lead to an injury. Especially with A) the uncertainty surrounding the rest of the starting rotation and B) his history of his "zanni-ness" causing his performance to suffer. He's allowed to have fun, just not at the expense of the ballclub
Well if Hill or Lily ar pitching I give a 50% chance of doing it.
The problem with the statements is Z consistently says/does stupid shit. If this was just a one time line in the paper then it's alright in my book but he's always doing/saying something stupid.
