Weirdest Cubs Injuries

soriano.hop.jpgAll baseball teams go through injuries during their season but it seems that the Chicago Cubs have some of the wackiest injuries in all of baseball. With Alfonso Soriano getting injured last night while doing his patented 'hop' while catching a fly ball....I bring you the weirdest Cubs injuries that I can remember

- Kerry Wood Hot Tub Incident - Cubs RP Kerry Wood looked like he was going to come out firing for the 2007 Season...until he met the hot tub at his condo in Spring Training. Wood slipped coming out of the hot tub and soon after went on the disabled list and wasn't heard from until later in the season.

- Mike Harkey is a Gymnast - Cubs SP Mike Harkey was about to become the next man Cubs fans dreamed about after winning 12 games as a rookie in 1990. Unfortunately, in 1991 Harkey decided he was going to do some cartwheels and hand springs before a game and.....injured his knee. He was never the same.

- Felix Pie has Balls -
This one just happened this Spring as Cubs OF Felix Pie went down with "twisted testicles". Seriously, how that happens, I don't know.

- Bless you, Sammy -
Towards the end of his tenure with the Cubs Sammy Sosa wasn't the most likeable guy and Cubs fans had to get a kick out of it when he went down with back spasms.....because he sneezed too hard before a game.

- Take a Seat, Remlinger - Generally the locker room is one of the safest players for ballplayers. That wasn't the case, though as Cubs RP Mike Remlinger flipped over in his Lazy-Boy recliner and hurt his hand.

- Carlos Zambrano found the End of the Internet - Thanks to commenter Tim for reminding me of this one but in 2005 Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano was asked/told by the Cubs to stop using the computer so much because it might contribute to elbow issues. Zambrano said he was spending about four hours a day on the computer e-mailing his family back in Venezuela but you and I know that there are only so many things you spend that much time on the Internet doing.

- Farnsworth Fans the Flames - Cubs RP Kyle Farnsworth was one of the most volatile players in recent history and one time took out his frustrations after a poor performance on a metal fan. Farnsworth fought the fan and the fan won.

- Hop to it Alfonso -
Converted OF Alfonso Soriano has never had the steadiest glove in the field and he scares every Cubs fan when he makes his patented 'hop' when he's about to catch a pop fly. That practice finally hopped up and bit him in the ass as he went down with a strained calf last night while performing the 'hop'.

The Cubs are filled to the brim with history.....but as you can see, some of it is obviously not good.

you forgot Kyle Farnsworth kicking a locker room fan. he went on the DL for that ... he was on the Yankees not too long afterwards.

That's the second to last entry on the post. The only one I couldn't decide whether or not to include it was when the Cubs pitcher was knocked out at the convenience store this Spring.

How about Zambrano hurting himself from e-mailing too much?

I must have been retarded to have forgotten about that. It's up there now. Thanks.

Can we blame the ex-Cub factor in Glenallen Hill's trip through a coffee table as he ran from spiders in a nightmare?

He was a Blue Jay at the time, but that has to be residual Cub mojo, right?

I thought that "metal fan" meant a longhaired devotee of Drysocket.

TIM said

the ball twisting one can be a very serious problem and most times needs surgery right away, but way to make fun of the guy for it

Unfortunately, for this list, he was a Blue Jay before he was a Cub so he hadn't picked up the Cub mojo yet.

TIM - we covered the Pie injury ad nauseum earlier in a serious tone.

Steve Trout fell off a stationary bike in 85

What about Jose Cardenal? He had two crazy injuries with the cubs.

1) He said he couldn't play one day because his eyelashes were stuck to his eyeball.

2) He also asked to sit a game because the "crickets were too loud" the night before.

Didn't Scott Sanderson or Steve Trout fall off of an exercise bicycle once?
