The Cardinals/Astros matchup has been gaining steam ever since the Pujols slide debacle earlier this season. The rivalry took another step this weekend with the benches clearing twice, once on Saturday and once on Sunday. Neither ended up in an all out brew-ha-ha, but still it makes for a couple of heated moments that are sure to only build throughout the season. Saturday's near fracas came about when Adam Wainwright threw a pitch behind Brad Ausmus in supposed retaliation of Roy Oswalt's purpose pitches to Jason LaRue and Albert Pujols. Sunday's deal happened after Yaddi Molina called time during Brandon Backe's windup and Backe threw some chin music on the next pitch to show his appreciation. The benches cleared with no punches were thrown. Backe seems to be at the root of all the problems brewing between the two teams as he was very vocal earlier in the season on Pujols' slide. And just like before Pujols showed who was the bigger man by going deep once again. Backe doesn't learn quickly...this we've learned. Troy Glaus also homered to register his first home run of the year. If he can keep this up then that will just help Pujols more and more. Kyle Lohse continued his pitching excellence for the Cards as they have now won two straight and start a series with the Reds tomorrow.
The Greatest Day of the Year (for some) - This weekend marked the 2008 NFL Draft. There are some people who absolutely live for this weekend. I must say that I usually watch a portion of the draft, but not this year. I found myself very disinterested in it. Probably because there were not a lot of big names in the draft. Attention wanes when a plethora of linemen are taken on the first day. For more complete coverage, check out our man Bruce Paine. He'll learn you a thing or two while giving you pics of bodacious babes! Also check out the live draft blog with Bruce and The GM. Link 1. Link 2. Link 3.
The Playoffs are FANTASTIC! - The NBA Playoffs continued this weekend and the Lakers seem to be in complete control in the West with a 3-0 lead over the Nuggets. The Spurs, Jazz, Magic and Cavaliers also have a good handle on their series with 3-1 leads. The only series that is tied is the 76ers/Pistons. Unless some teams step up it is looking to be a rather uneventful first round. Let's see if a few teams can find some heart and make a series out of these things.
Weaving a Webb of Awesomeness - Brandon Webb has been great this season. That is great for the Diamondbacks and even greater for my Fantasy team. Webb became the first 6 game winner on Sunday in a victory over the Padres. Webb is only the fourth pitcher to ever compile 6 wins by the end of April. The last player to do it was his teammate Randy Johnson, who did it in 2002 and 2000. If he keeps this up the Diamondbacks will ride him to the NL West crown and I'll ride him to the Yahoo Championship!
Keep It Crean - Some good news for Tom Crean and the IU basketball program.
What's Better than 2 Sisters......3 Sisters - A trio of sisters have all been selected to the Philadelphia Eagles cheer squad. Their mother must be extremely proud.
Wonderful Wonderlic - Two words come to mind when you think of the NFL Draft......Wonderlic Scores. In that same arena, three words come to mind when you think of idiot.......John David Booty. With a name like that he was bound to be a moron.

If Glaus keeps this up he will have 6 or 7 homers by the end of the season.
That poor father...what does the mom look like!?
Cecil Cooper seems to have a much cooler head about him than Garner did, and I think that was a contributing factor in the non-escalation of the "incidents". And as much as I can't stand Berkman, he did a good job of playing peacemaker, too. It's just too bad Albert's hr didn't come off Backe.
