Weekend Shenanigans

gasol.jpgNo intro this week......straight to the Shenanigans!

NBA Playoffs - The NBA kicked off the 2008 playoffs this weekend. There were a couple of good games, notably the Suns/Spurs and Pistons/76ers matchups, but the rest were just kind of blah. Some of the individual performances out-shined the games themselves. The big stars of the weekend include Chris Paul (35/10), Dwight Howard (25/22), Tim Duncan (40/15) and Pau Gasol (36/16/8). These are some of the guys you would expect to perform above and beyond during the playoffs.  Cleveland, San Antonio, New Orleans, Utah, Orlando, LA, Philadelphia and Boston all head into this week with a 1-0 lead in their respective series and will be looking to build upon that against their opponents.

A First in Racing - Danica Patrick has finally done it. After a long long long 50 races, she finally was able to pull into victory lane. Patrick has been a sensation ever since she began racing a few years back, but has never been able to pull off the big victory. This has led to many Anna Kournikova comparisons. Pretty girl, pretty face......not enough skills. She has proven herself now just before the IRL and CART series are set to combine. Could this be the stepping stone she needs to pull off a win at the Indy 500 next month? We'll just have to wait and see. Congrats Danica.

Federer is Back? - Roger Federer has had a very tough 2008 thus far. It became a little better over the weekend as he won his first title of the year at the Estoril Open. Federer did not win the match in his normal dominating fashion. Instead his opponent, Nikolay Davydenko retired in the second set with a leg injury. You gotta take them how you can get them though. There has been much speculation that Federer could be on the down side of an immaculate career. Let's wait and see how the rest of the year plays out before we count him out. He is getting to that age when tennis stars start to dwindle. Tennis is a young man's game, but I wouldn't count him out just yet.

Cubs Vendors are Stupid - Apparently the vendors at Cubs games can't get their hands on a Japanese spell-check/translator machine to make sure the Fukudome shirts say the right thing....... Hell, they can't even tell if it's actually even in Japanese.

Pop-Culture Tidbit of the Week - For those of you that like to read US Weekly and like all the pop culture news, Eli Manning was married on Saturday.

the cleveland/washington matchup was pretty good, about 8/10s of the way through.

i'm not sure if phoenix should feel good because there's NO way tim duncan drops another game like that on them again and they can still go home with a split, or is they should be worried that they coughed up a huge early lead to their annual nemesis.

I watched that Phx/SA game and I'm a firm believer that the Spurs have the biggest floppers in the game.
