Since a day or two after becoming the Indiana University men's basketball coach, Tom Crean has been on the recruiting trail attempting to formulate a competitive team for next year. In the last few days he has began to see the fruits of his labor. No, he hasn't landed any high touted recruits, but he has landed a couple of kids that can help the team. Crean who has been fighting an uphill battle with all the turmoil that has been surrounding the program in the last few months does have one great thing going for him. He can pretty much offer up playing time right away to any recruit. That is a big bargaining chip for some kids and I"m sure Crean is using it to his full advantage.
Earlier this week Crean received a commitment from Bobby Capobianco. Capobianco is a 6-8 forward from Loveland, Ohio. He won't be helping the Hoosiers right away as he will be joining the class of 2009. This weekend Crean received a commitment from a player who can contribute right away. That player being Devan Dumes. Dumes is a JUCO transfer from Vincennes University. Crean hasn't typically targeted JUCO players in the past, but at this point he may have to rely on that strategy in order to put a decent team on the court next year. Dumes is a 6-2 guard who played at Eastern Michigan his freshman year and then at Vincennes this year. He averaged a 16.9 per game and set the single season 3 pointer record with 109. All the movement with this guy could cause some concern, but at least Crean is convincing guys to come to IU. Supposedly, IU beat out hio State, Colorado, South Alabama and UTEP in the recruitment of Dumes.
Let's see if Crean can continue to build on this momentum. If so, maybe we will see a decent team after all next year?

What's up with Ebanks? Is he in the fold or did he open up his recruitment again?
Also, is Jamacus Ellis comin back?
no and no. IU's two highest recruits were let out of their scholarships after Sampson left. Ebanks will probably end up at Memphis and Ellis is probably not going to be allowed back on the team.
