Cardinals Get Back On Track

doh.jpgThe Cardinals looked to get back on track last night against the Milwaukee Brewers after losing two straight to the lowly Giants. They were able to pull off a 4-3 victory, but not until a little bit of funny business took place. Adam Wainwright led the Cardinals with seven strong innings, allowing only 2 earned runs. He did allow four walks which is a bit of a concern, but was able to leave with the lead. That's when the funny business started to happen. The Cards were able to take a 3-2 lead in the 8th after an error by Corey Hart left Ryan Ludwick on 3rd base with no outs. Adam Kennedy then hit a sac fly to bring in Ludwick. Hart lost Ludwick's fly ball in the Miller Park lights.

Ryan Franklin took over for Wainwright in the bottom of the 8th only to have the Miller Park lighting system strike again. Ludwick slipped and misplayed a ball on....get this, a Corey Hart fly ball. The mishap led to the Brewers tying up the game and brought a snicker to Hart's face as he stood at third, knowing exactly what was going through Ludwick's head. Derrick Turnbow took the mound in the top of the 9th for the Brewers only to allow contact on his first three pitches. Brian Barton started the inning off with a double and was then moved to third on a sacarifice by Cesar Izturis. Skip Schumaker, at that time 0 for 4 on the day, then smashed a double to the wall to give the Cardinals a 4-3 lead. Jason Isringhausen then came on in the bottom half to close the game out in 6 pitches.

Turnbow has been struggling with his command this year. He had command last night, but the result was bad just the same. The Brewers desperately need him to pitch well in order to stay in the Central race. Luckily for the Cardinals he was throwing meatballs and helped them stop their two game skid. The skid pushed the Cards out of first place and had fans worried that the good times were over. I think we'll still see quite a bit more ups and downs, strikes and gutters with this team.

One thing I forgot to mention and this is mainly for Cardinals fans.

Troy Glaus who has 0 HR this year hit his 3rd double in the last two days in this game. This usually means HR are to follow so hopefully we'll be seeing some power from Glaus soon.

Hart should have taken a cue from his own song and worn sunglasses last night.

I really enjoyed that picture when I saw it. It goes somewhat with the post title also. Back on track/warning track.....get it?????

Hopefully Glaus will get the 0 out of the HR column soon. He so far has hit better on the road, seemingly, than at home--perhaps he'll pop one this afternoon?

Yeah, that was a gift win last night, but you know what? Last year, they would've lost that game. The one thing this team has(or at least it seems to have) over last year's squad is there's no "give up", for lack of a better term. I'm not sure if it's due to the infusion of the younger guys, or a case of addition by subtraction(no more Rolen or Jimmy Ballgame), or a combination of both, but it's refreshing to see. I'm not saying they'll win 90 games or more, but it's a nice change.
