Those people say Bassett and Ellis missed a pre-arranged appointment
late last week, and Dakich told them that they were required to run at
6 a.m. the next day as punishment. He also told them at the time that
if they didn't show up, they would be off the team.
The next morning neither was there and Dakich informed them later of his decision.
Awesome. The hits just keep on coming. Is it any wonder why they are struggling so much to find a new coach? This is not a very attractive job at all right now. Let's see, as a new coach you would have to deal with possible NCAA sanctions AND having to recruit an entire team during the Summer. Ugh.
I can see what Dakich is doing from the perspective of a coach, but come on dude....you aren't going to be the coach next year, do you really have the authority to do stuff like this? As for Bassett and Ellis.....you both are stupid. Yes, stupid. Plain stupid. Borderline dumb. Ugh. Of course, they are going to try to get back on the team when a new coach is hired.
But they are telling teammates that they hope the dismissal will turn
into more of a suspension. They plan on maintaining their eligibility
in hopes that a new coach will allow them back on the team, according
to a source close to the situation.
I suppose it's good that they'll still be going to class but what a couple of knuckleheads.
This whole Dakich deal just perplexes me. Actually, this whole situation is baffling. Rampage and I are dealing with interim bosses right now and I wouldn't listen to them if they started telling me to do stuff.
If Ellis transfers he still has one year and if Bassett leaves he'll only have on year of eligibility, is that correct?
Mack was quoting Hoosiers, genius. The joker who wants to be coach at the beginning that Hackman kicks out of his practice. The guy says, "Mister, you mess this up and I'll personally blah blah blah" and then Norman Dale says, "Leave the ball" as the guy is walking out. Great
The next best thing is that when we hire the sorry sob that is going to eventually take the coaching job some old secretary in the AD needs to say, "Buddy, the sun don't shine on the same dog's ass everyday, but you ain't seen a ray of light since you got here."
Dakich asked Greenspan to remove Bassett, Ellis and two other players from the team immediately for several reasons, including failed drug tests, poor grades and talking back to coaches, the source said.
man...who would've thought that it might be a failed drug test?

just read the comments section on the second link. was surprised to see how many people found the behavior acceptable. if you intentionally skip team meetings you kinda have to accept the notion of consequences.
Was that your first time meeting IU fans? They aren't exactly the most rational bunch.

Should a fun trip to Maui for the Hoosiers next fall. In fact, THAT should be the prime recruiting tool in trying to get 8 or 9 kids this offseason. Want a free trip to Hawaii? Come play basketball for IU, and we'll throw in a scholarship along with that free trip. Who could say no to that?
Bassett, Ellis, et al don't really deserve reinstatement with all the crap they've done this year. Between the suspensions during the season and the stuff that has happened in the last month, I wouldn't mind if the new coach just told them they were no longer needed. It is going to be a starting from scratch situation anyway, so we might as well sort out the bad eggs right from the start.
Well at this point I'm not sure who would. Although my dad is looking for a career change.

I will say that one thing the IU administration needs to really be on top of is the teams APR scores. I am pretty sure that IU's basketball team is well under the cut score for losing scholarships due to under-performing academically. Losing all these players will only make that score drop lower, which entails potential scholarship penalties. If I am calculating things right, with the one scholarship they are self-imposing from the Sampson debacle they could technically lose two other scholarships on top of that. Not a good situation at all in Bloomington.
By the way Jack, how can you not get the Monon Line quote from Hoosiers. Although the Beerfest reference was not bad.

Wasn't that a shame, Mack? Just got done watching the movie. Didn't get that emotional, either. In 1999 I was watched Milan play in a Semi-State game in Greencastle ( I think). They don't get that far very often and the whole town was there. They had the remaining members of the 54 team there in reserved seats and they had their letter jackets on. I went to get popcorn for my old man and Plump walked up to the concession stand. People stepped aside but he refused to cut in line. Men took their hats off.
I'm getting sick of this shit@!
I think that's what Bassett and Ellis were thinking, too.
How is Dakich even still in Bloomington? I think that they should hide-strap his ass to a rail and send him up the Monon line.

Damn right! Its time folks got the idea of how we do stuff round hyar! I am watching that movie today. Unemployment is great.
Are you talking about the movie "Beer Fest" or "Das Boot"?

it's amazing how quickly everything has fallen apart.
Just when everything looks like it couldn't get any worse...they're going to unveil Skiles and blue skies will be here to stay.
I'm not sure Skiles would find the IU job appealing at all
