In testicular torsion the spermatic cord that provides the blood supply to a testicle is twisted, cutting off the blood supply, often causing orchalgia. Prolonged testicular torsion will result in the death of the testicle and surrounding tissues.
I think we all agree that he's making the right decision at this point. You can now take a deep breath and relax.
Even though Pie has been dealing with this injury, he has hit at a .321 clip this Spring and looks to break camp as the starter in center field for the Cubs. Pie will be out three to five days and Sam Fuld, who was Pie's main competition at the beginning of camp, will fill in until Pie returns. The Cubs expect Pie to make a full recovery and be at full strength soon after the surgery.
This is the second outpatient surgery this Spring for a would-be Cubs starter as second baseman Mark DeRosa underwent heart surgery earlier this Spring and just returned to action on Monday.
Nut torsion...doesn't sound like a whole lot of fun to me.

When I was a student, I was working in the ER, had a guy come in that we thought had testicular torsion....just turned out he liked to do a lot of Meth and for the past month he slept for only about 3 days and had had a lot of sex with prostitutes in Harlem...hence the gonorrhea he contracted....

I saw an old friend for the first time in a few years not too long ago. I asked him how med school was going and his immediate response was good and then went into the story about how he just removed someone testicle the day before. I went and got another beer to ease the pain.

I feel sorry for Pie...talk about a pain in the nut.
Owwwwww....
Any word as to whether Billy or Dr. White will be doing the surgery?
Ronnie Lott had his pinky finger amputated so he could keep playing, I wonder what he would do in this situation.
I think he'd first knock out the doctor and perform the operation on the testicle himself.
If there was no Chuck Norris, Ronnie Lott would be Chuck Norris.
