Hoosier Accolades

DJ_White223422.jpgThis is a bit late, but I think we would be remiss in not posting something about Indiana Hoosier players receiving regional and national recognition.

Earlier this week DJ White and Eric Gordon were named to the first team All Big Ten by both the media and the coaches. DJ also was named the unanimous Player of the Year while Gordon was named the Freshman of the Year. Both awards came as no surprise to anyone as DJ was a monster all season and Gordon led the league in scoring.

Along with the regional love, DJ and Gordon also received national props from the Sporting News. DJ was named to the second team All America and Gordon was named to the freshman team All America.

The full All America and All Big Ten teams are listed after the jump.

Question...going into the Big Ten Tournament, would you rather have Stephen Curry or Eric Gordon on IU?

Gotta be honest....don't know him well enough to answer that. I haven't seen him play and don't know his stats off the top of my head. I'm sure you would go with Curry or you wouldn't have asked the question.

I just know that Curry shoots lights out. Here are his stats...http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaab/players/60800

Hmmmm....definitely better stat wise than Gordon. But you also have to look at who Davidson is playing against. Not quite the competition of the Big Ten.

For another take on Gordon, check this site out. Talks about how both Gordon and OJ aren't as good for their teams as every analyst thinks.

Yeah, I had read that already. i was just using Curry because he was ahead of Gordon on the AA lists. He had some good games against the elite teams in the nation.

I'd take Curry hands down. Leading your team to 20-0 in conference is amazing. His father was Dell Curry, so the kid grew up shooting the ball and it shows with his 49% fg percentage.

Plus look at Davidson's losses:
UNC (72-68), at Western Michigan (83-76), Duke (79-73), at Charlotte (75-68), at UCLA (75-63), and at NC State (66-65). Curry averaged 24 points a game in those losses.

Don't forget he tore a ligament in his wrist in November and played with it like that the rest of the season.

Jack, having seen Curry in person multiple times I would have to go with Gordon. Their games are completely different in that Gordon is much more physical. I do not think that Curry would hold up over a full Big Ten season. The pounding that he would take is much different than the Southern. In my estimation Gordon would average somewhere around 35 in the SoCon.
My Winthrop Eagles held Curry to 12 points on 4-14 shooting, and I was not overly impressed. Our defense is pretty good and fairly physical for our level, but would be like Northwestern's defense in the Big Ten.
