What Is Up With the Roberts Trade???

roberts.1.jpgUgh...this is how things usually go it seems. I heard from my 'insider' yesterday that the trade was just about complete (minus the press conference, exact quote) and then.....nothing happened. These things happen. The trade is still going to go through, barring another team flooding the market, but it might take some more time and maybe some different players from the Cubs. So, please be patient and keep checking back for updates.

I am starting to hate the Cubs front office. Weeks and weeks of "is Fuku coming here or not" and now we are going through the same with Roberts. I would love to get Roberts as a true speedy lead off hitter would set the table very nicely for Soriano, Fuko and Ramirez. Put Lee at 2nd in the order and let him work the count allowing Roberts to work his magic on the bases.

I hear you...it seems like the only trades that happen are the one's you never hear about until they are done with. As soon as stuff goes public everyone starts to second guess themselves.

It sounds as if the Orioles are trying to hold out a bit for a little more talent. I saw Pie, Hill, and Colvin's name wanted by the Orioles. If I was the Cubs, I would be patient and stick to the previous deal. If anyone else wants to enter the race for Roberts, go ahead. At that time then the Cubs can reconsider those top prospects included in their package.
I guess I need to know a bit more about who all knows about a potential deal. If not all clubs now about the goings on with the Roberts potential deal then the demand may rise when it hits the public and awareness is created. If I was the Orioles in that situation, then I would hold out a bit to see if the demand rises with the publicity of the event.

The Cubs need to stand firm with the Gallagher, Marshall and Cedeno offer and if the O's decline then I would walk away. Colvin will be a force for years to come and while Pie hasn't shown he can hit he does have good speed and a good glove. If the Cubs were smart they would teach him to drag bunt down the 3rd baseline and use his speed on the bases.

Unfortunately, as you saw last season....and with Corey Patterson, the Cubs aren't the best at teaching their players how to bunt. There have been rumors that the Cubs hitting coach went down to Pie's Winter League team and tried to teach him this off-season...we'll see what happens with that. A drag bunt for Pie would be down the 1st base line.
