Weekend Shenanigans

ana-ivanovic.jpgIt's going to be ok Ana Ivanovic. You may have lost the championship of this weekend's Australian Open, but from the looks of it you won God's hottness lottery. That face and body will get you much further in life than a little silver cup from the Aussie's. On another bright topic, LOST starts it's new season this Thursday in what is sure to be an exhilirating two hours. Too bad us LOST fanatics are going to be stuck with only 8 new episodes as the writers strike is still ruining all that is wholesome and good in life. Onto the Shenanigans!

Tiger Maims Field with Gap Wedge - The PGA really should move any of their tournaments that are held in the Sand Diego area to somewhere else. That way, someone other than Tiger Woods could win a tournament. Woods was up to his old tricks again over the weekend as he won his fourth consecutive Buick Invitational. He lapped the field by a slight 8 shots. Thanks to Tiger, the USGA is probably going to set up death traps at Torrey Pines for the US Open this year.

UConn Downs Hoosiers - I was so pissed after this game that the recap is being relegated to the Shenanigans. IU deserved to lose this game by 20 points. No defense, no offense, no rebounding, no hustle, nothing. It was a sad showing. I partly blame Doug Gottlieb for the loss as he said that UConn had no chance to win the game, seeing as they were missing two of their guards. Thanks Doug, you ass face.

Icecapades All-Stars - Alright, if any of you knew that the NHL All-Star game was going on this weekend then please raise your hands................Anyone...........(cricket noises)...............uh................someone???......... Guess not. I only realized it when I got up around 5:30 this morning and turned on Sportscenter and saw the highlights. It actually looked like a good game with the Western Conference winning 8-7. I didn't know they allowed that much scoring in a hockey game. I thought there were caps involved or something? Maybe Jack can inform me of this, seeing that he is becoming a hockey connoisseir of sorts.

Nice Volley Mate - News Flash!!!! Roger Federer is not the Australian Open Champion, I repeat Roger Federer is not the Australian Open Champion!!!!! That distinction goes to Novak Djokovic after he beat Roger in the semi-finals and then proceded to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in four sets on Sunday. It is Djokovic's first Grand Slam title and probably won't be his last. On the women's side, Maria Sharapova beat Ana Ivanovic to win the title. Lovely Ana is shown in the pic above. It was quite a final.......for those that love to watch nice looking young women run around in skimpy outfits.

Super Bowl, Super Expensive - Super Bowl tickets are averaging a re-sell cost of $4,300 on Stub Hub. You read that right. Don't believe me? Check this out then. Honestly, I've never been to a Super Bowl and would love to go, but if I could fetch nearly five grand for a ticket, I think I would sell that puppy. That's just me.... Speaking of selling a puppy, I think these owners are about to do just that. Check this out..... Buddy would rather eat the tickets than sell them or go to the game.

Gottlieb is an ass face. Play of the game goes to the fans as they chanted what seemed to be "Fuck You Ref" towards the end of the game as they were sick of the 21-11 advantage UConn took in the foul category. The bad part is they were Big Ten officials that we'll probably see down the road. IU lost because they played horrible (not solely because of the officials) and I would hate to be on the team in these next few days as they will be punished for playing individual ball.

That is what the fans were chanting. I don't recall hearing it while watching the game. I heard the bullshit chant multiple times though. Supposedly, Greenspan is not to happy about the F U chant. There were at least 3 articles in the IDS about it.

The "ole lady" went to the game with me and when I heard the chant I immediately said earmuffs. The game was at 1 so they students couldn't of been that drunk. I asked a handful of people who watched the game if they could make out the chant but none could confirm it.

For those fo you that watched IU and then Purdue play, I don't know anyone in the world who could have watched gordon play and then watched Moore play and not chosen Moore for their squad. He plays with more amturity and doesn't throw the ball around needlessly. What he lacks in spped with the ball and slashing ability he makes up for with a smooth midranger and a lot of functional length. the more we see of Gordon down the road here the more I am convinced he should stay longer. i wish IU had Moore.

And it isn't the writers strike that shitting on us all, it is the ultra wealthy and their lack of desire to share their welath with those who helped them get it. Screw the wealthy, they will figure things out soon enough when it all goes to hell and I am stealing their coats at gunpoint.

Terry Hutchens (Indy Star) mentioned Gordon's lack of a mid-range jumper in his latest post. He noted how Gordon only takes deep 3's or drives completely to the hoop, no in between. A pull-up jumper would be a nice addition to that arsenal, especially when the 25 footers aren't falling.

Also, I realize the writer's are the ones getting screwed. Just used a blanket term to bring up the whole situation.

As someone who watched and read about Moore throughout his HS career....he's extremely streaky. While he'll look like an all-american one game, he's just as likely to look like a walk-on the next. He's a typical freshman in that manner. He'll end up being a good player for Purdue, but he's no Gordon.

While I think Gordon should stay, too....the longer he stays, the more people are going to 'pick' at his game and that's not good for draft status no matter who you are.

As soon as I heard the announcers talk about the missing Connecticut players, I immediately wanted to bet on U Conn...and the funny thing is, I've never bet on sports in my life. Many teams do BETTER after you remove some of the talent on the squad, because they focus more, come together, and can play without pressure because people expect them to lose. Look at the Giants without Shockey and Barber. It's a great topic for a blog sometime.

As someone who once had a black lab(he passed away of old age in 2003), I can attest to their love of anything chewable. Along with a pair of my glasses(which I had purchased just two months previously), he ate several pairs of shoes, books and my sofa. Despite all that, I loved the big lug. Although, eating a pair of Super Bowl tix might have changed that.

I watched Gordon during warmup just to see how great of a shooter he was. I was amazed at his effortless shot and the fact that he never misses. For him, it was like a big man taking a drop step and laying off the glass from a couple of feet out. Of course as mentioned about his mid-range game, not once did he take a shot inside the arc. I believe he should come back for a year but I think that about every player that leaves early (except Durant). But, it doesn't matter to the NBA teams if he fine tunes those skills.

I love what IU is doing this year and that they have only 2 losses, but I am starting to question their ability. The do not put teams away when they are playing teams that they are supposed to blow out, and they have played a very weak schedule up to this point. Am I the only one concerned when they play Wisconsin and Ohio State in 3 of their next 6 games?

No Cpt. You are not the only one. I'd be somewhat happy if IU pulls off a 8-5 record in their last 13 games (including UConn).

Here's where I think they may trip up.
1. UConn - check
2. @ Wisconsin
3. Either @ Illinois or @ Ohio St. not both
4. Either Wisconsin or Mich St.
5. @ Mich St.

The way they've been playing though, they really could lose both the Illini/Ohio St. away games and both the Wisconsin and Mich St. home games. Perhaps even the Purdue home game. If that happens then they go 6-7 to close out the year. I shudder to even think that!

You can't get ready for the Big Ten schedule by playing the UNC and UT branch schools, Longwood, and Chicago State. The only competition they have played, they have lost to (Xavier and UConn).

Bruce Paine said

Kentucky may be down but they aren't a high school squad, and Southern Illinois was game, and we got them down there.

The bottom line is they have to make adjustments going into this schedule. Things such as Gordon taking it to the rack consistently and effectively isn't going to work night in and night out. As Sampson said after Sat's game, we were "out-toughed." I think much of that has been going on this year and the schedule is part of that reason. In the tone that he said those words, I have to believe that he will have them ready to take it to anyone. Now if they can just get past some of the selfish play. As far as the schedule goes; UConn, UK and So. Ill were supposed to be top notch opponents. UK and UConn were consistently top 10 opponents when scheduled. So. Ill on the road was supposed to be one of the toughest games of the year but they are not panning out this year. There has been some circumstance that has worked against them with the schedule.
