San Diego it is!

With San Diego's patient, grind it out win, they tomlinson.jpgsecured a chance to show up at our barn next Sunday at 1 bell and take their shot at the big belt-buckle.  San Diego grabbed a win from the Colts on one of Peyton Manning's worst days as a pro a week after our first loss of the season.  Nothing seemed to work.  It all went to Hell.  Now, the best tailback in the league is coming in to face a banged up defense for a shot to go to the AFC Championship game.  Bruce Paine couldn't be happier.  Come inside to find six things that will help the Colts win.

Here you go

1. I want the Colts to play a team that has beat them once rather than a team they beat twice before.  I want them to be in it to take something away from the other guy, that is when they play their best.  If they had had Jacksonville coming in it would have been a situation where Jacksonville would have come in with tin hats and fixed bayonets and the Colts may not have cared because they have gotten into a habit of beating them.

2. I want Jacksonville to play New England.  The Jags have the ability to beat the Pats.  They have a decent pass defense and a great running game with which to keep Brady off the field.  They have the best of the young QBs in Garrard and they get good pressure from their front four.  I think it would be great if the Pats lost to a team we beat twice.  If the Pats win, I think the Jags have a good chance of roughing them up, which is a good way for anybody to face them.  God help us, the only way to beat the Pats might be to kill Tom Brady.

3. I think the Colts have come a long way since the loss to the Chargers.  I don't think the Colts lost to the Chargers that day, I think they lost to them the week previous when we had 9 or 10 guys so banged up from the Pats game they couldn't go against the Chargers.  Does anyone remember how easy it was to pressure Manning when he had three starting linemen on the bench with scrapes.  It was a tough go for him.  He learned from that.  That offense has developed also, and much of that has to do with Peyton stepping back and rewriting the offense at mid-season.  They were as better in week 13-15 than any other time.  It is nice to be hitting on all cylinders at playoff time.

4.  I think the Chargers will be out-coached.

5.  I think the week off will give Robert Mathis and Raheem Brock a chance to get going again.  A big part of the Colts run defense is not in their ability to stuff the gap, but penetrate behind the line and intersect the back, make him change directions.  Brock is a huge part of that and he has been gone for 3 or 4 weeks.

6.  I think the Chargers coaching staff may be a bit nervous about facing Peyton again.  It may be tough to remember, but after Peyton threw 137 first-half interceptions, he came out in the second half and was brilliant.  BRILLIANT.  He put the best clutch kicker in history in a position to make a difference and Vinatieri missed it.  I think old Norm, who has been a three time loser and is just now getting a taste of playoff success, will remember that and get a little conservative.  That little bit of wiggle room will be all we need to go get that game.  I look forward to it.

I think this is going to be a blowout. The Colts just seem to have too much to play for hereafter losing to the Chargers earlier this season. This should make for a very good warm-up for the AFC Championship Game
