Inmates Running the Asylum

wallace.3.jpgThe Bulls used to have a coach who was controlling and took care of everything. Now they have a coach who is letting the players suspend other players? What the heck is happening in Chicago?

noah.13.jpgBulls F/C Joakim Noah was suspended last week for 'going off' on assistant coach Ron Adams at practice. That, I can understand. I have no problem with that at all. When a player gets out of line, something needs to be done. Point made...or so I thought.

After Noah was suspended for the game against 76ers, his teammates went ahead and decided that he should sit out Sunday's game as well.....bad move. Where to start, where to start, where to start?

Ok, here is the problem. Players shouldn't be able to suspend players. I understand the whole 'team vote' and all that crap, so if the situation happens, the coaching staff first needs to ask the players what their opinion is.....Then a vote can be taken......if the coaching staff/organization doesn't agree with it, then it shouldn't be allowed. If the coaching staff agrees with it...then they should be the one's who take the credit for the suspension so that the player who was suspended isn't blasted in the press. That's just how things are done. Coaching staff takes care of stuff like this....players take care of stuff like...playing the actual game.

I hate to say this, but the Bulls would have never had this problem with Scott Skiles. If/When Ben Wallace came to him about suspending Joakim Noah, he would have told Wallace to go back to his locker. The players are there for one reason, to play. Things have gotten out of hand in Chicago and it's John Paxson's fault.

Paxson was the one who signed Ben Wallace, and I have to admit, at the time I thought it was a good deal. Unfortunately, I didn't know that Wallace would be the player who came to the Bulls and tore their organization apart by A) not being a very good player and B) doing a lot of work 'behind the scenes' when things weren't going his way. Ben Wallace is not a leader, but he is paid like one. He's not a very good player, but he's paid like one. There seemed to be only one way to get Wallace to play hard this season and that was to fire Scott Skiles....now Wallace is starting to get players suspended. What's next?

The Bulls were an organization built on teamwork and determination/hardwork. Now that all seems to be lost. The second suspension of Noah was a bad move by the organization, but it was hardly the first bad move by them this season. This isn't a Joakim Noah problem, this is a Bulls problem. The Bulls are starting to sink....and quickly as each day brings about a new drama and a new set of excuses for their failure to win.

He should have been suspended for looking like a douchebag at the NBA draft. I thought it was cool the players stepped up and said enough. This was not the first time he screwed up and maybe things got a little lax during the transition between coaches. It's not like Boylan is going to run the show forever and he can't make any real decisions anyway.

You always hear coaches talk about putting it to a team to vote for allowing a player to return after some misdeed. This is the first time players actually said no. The best part is he can't bitch to the players association.

I wouldn't mind it as much if the players seemed like a cohesive unit or if there was some veteran leadership but to have a bunch of guys, who seemingly have no idea how to lead, decide if a guy should be suspended seems wrong.

If anything, Paxson should have stepped up and suspended Noah for being late to practices. Everyone bitched that Skiles was too harsh on the young players and now they are wishing there was some discipline on the team.

It isn't the job of the player to hand out suspensions. If they want to be leaders and instill some discipline, do it on the court or at practice, or before practice. Maybe they all should have been suspended for letting it get to this point and not putting a stop to it earlier?
