I just love coming up with lame headlines like the one above. It's fun and at least it gives me a chuckle or two early on a Monday morning. This one makes sense because Western Carolina's mascot is a Catamount and a Catamount is essentially a mountain lion and the Hoosiers kicked the living bejesus out of them, hence the reference to roaring and taming.....you get the picture.
I must be honest, I did not get to see a whole lot of this game due to a Christmas party I attended on Saturday night. The game was showing during the party, but when you see that your team is up by 15 or 20 points with 10 minutes to go in the first half, you go right back to your game of beer pong. It ended up being a wise decision as the Hoosiers came out on top 100-52.
Eric Gordon returned from a lower back injury and played.....well. He finished with 26 points in only 29 minutes of play. DJ White continued his dominance with yet another double-double, finishing with 21 points and 11 rebounds in only 24 minutes of play. These two are going to a force to be rekoned with once the Big 10 season rolls around. They have a couple more games against inferior opponents to hone their skills and then should be ready to dominate.
Jordan Crawford had his second straight solid performance since coming back from his suspension. He compiled 19 points and 5 assists in 31 minutes of play. The win was so lopsided for the Hoosiers that Kelvin Sampson divied up playing time quite liberally. Brandon McGee had 17 minutes of playing time and the terrific trio of Kyle Taber, Brett Finkelmeier and Adam Ahlfeld receieved 12, 3 and 2 minutes of playing time respectively.
The Hoosiers take on Coppin State this Saturday and Chicago State in what should be easy victories before the Big 10 season kicks off.

A couple of questions....1) Do you think I can get away with naming my first-born child, 'Catamount'?, 2) Is Bassett still suspended? Yes, yes he is. That's more of a statement, 3) Thanks for the invite to the Christmas Party...that's more of a complaint.
1) I actually kind of like that as a name. Rings true, much like Clementine does. 2) Yes, yes he is. 3) I can't bring an uninvited, unwelcome intruder to a party. I can't be aiding and abetting some...party-crasher.
What do you think I am? Some sort of instigator. (10 points to anyone who picks up on this vague reference)
It either has to be The Big Lebowski or Kramer...I'm going to go with Kramer since it's a weekday.
Ding ding ding!
It's actually a combo of George and Kramer, but I was just looking for Seinfeld for the answer.
I lied though, you don't get 10 points, only 3 brownie points and 2 eagle scout badges.
Coppin State's coach has the greatest nickname ever:
Ron "Fang" Mitchell
Probably a good thing you didn't watch too much of the second half since they had Taber in there with 10 minutes left. Also, props to Buck for the UE memorial post. If you didn't see it, go back and check it out. Being a UE alumni, much like Buck, (don't tell him but we used to charge him 4X's the regular cover when he came to our parties. He would sometimes run the ladies off so we would have to get something to make up for that) the memorial is a staple at the university. Some 10+ years after that incident Jim Crews was able to produce a team that would make the NCAA tournament even as the smallest D1 school in the nation. So, they recovered quite nicely.
UE doesn't even have the best basketball program in its own town!!!
Did they USI this year? I know they beat them last year. Bruce Pearl built a great program at USI before he left for the D1 ranks.
Nah, just giving you guys a hard time. USI is very good for DII but D1 is a different animal
USI & UE didn't play this year. People have been saying for years that USI would beat the Aces, so it was good to see UE win fairly easily last year.
I don't think many people understand the difference in defensive intensity between D1 & D2.
I hope Marty Simmons turns things around for the Aces. It'd be nice to have some decent basketball games to go to around here.
If Marty could turn it around to compete in the MVC consistently, it would make for a great story. There are very few that mean more to the UE program than Marty (even if he wasn't there his whole career).
