Cobra Quick Hits

mavsgirl.jpgI don't really have enough to make a post on any of these particular thoughts, but if I put them all together.....blamo! A full post. Let's see how this goes. If nothing else, you get a pic of a cute girl on your computer.

- To start things off, we have been put into a "Sports Blog of the Year Tournament" based on our BallHype ranking. We are a #15 seed.....Good for us.....I guess if we win we get a bikini calendar and $50 bucks, or something like that. To motivate you to vote for us, If you guys go over there and we win the whole thing....one of you will get the calendar and another one of you will get the $50 or a $50 gift card. If we get bounced in the first round Bruce Paine will commit suicide. The great blog, Home Run Derby has come up with an interesting incentive to vote for them and has promised to vote for us if we vote for them, so....done and done.

- I've had some time to think, ponder and read about The Mitchell Report and everyone is complaining about "Why players from insert team name on the report?" Ok, we all know that all of the leaks came from clubhouses in NY and Baltimore, so it's tough to get any news outside of there. When the union tells players to shut up.....the players shut up. Mitchell could only work with what he had, or could squeeze out of people. Which brings me to....where are all the foreign players on the list? I'm not necessarily just talking about players that were born out of the United States, I'm talking about players who train outside of the United States in the off-season. MLB said that 29% of players in MLB are 'foreign-born' and I counted like 10 guys (out of 87) who might workout outside of the U.S. in the off-season. It seems like a lot of the players who have failed the drug tests have been players from outside of the U.S., so why couldn't Mitchell have forced the issue a little more with these players? In other words, stop saying..."Where are the Red Sox players?" and start asking, "Where are the foreign players?"

- I played basketball with Paine on Saturday on the IU Campus. We got into a fairly heated game and I was guarding this kid who was 'all energy'. You know the type. Runs around everywhere, can't hit a jumper, but will steal every rebound away. He is initially being guarded by one of my teammates but I switch with him because the 'energy dude' is playing down low and I have the strength/intelligence to deal with guys like that. So, I start to lock him up, push him around, don't give him an inch and become a nuisance to him. He starts to elbow me back and try to push me around. Problem is...I don't care when people do that and usually I laugh. So when this happened it made him mad enough to say to me, "Get out of here Old Man." I'll be honest, that hurt me when he said that. It hurt me bad. So, the next time he got the ball I fouled him really hard on the wrist. Not hard enough to break it, but hard enough that he's probably still feeling it. I'm not an Old Man, yet.

- I wish that CBS and Fox would get together so that we could at least have one good network to watch football on. CBS has the better pre-game but Fox has the better game presentation but....CBS has the better games. They need to combine forces and figure it all out. CBS sucks at showing stats 'live' on their ticker so I have to constantly check my computer to see how my fantasy players are doing. It's a huge hassle. Also, apparently FOX had the national coverage of the games yesterday or something, so that meant I was stuck watching the mammoth Packers vs. Rams match-up in the early afternoon instead of the Pats/Jets or the Browns/Bills on CBS, that was pure awesomeness wrapped up in crap.

- I shoveled two inches of rain off of my driveway on Saturday morning. You have to love Southern Indiana weather. At least in NW Indiana (where I grew up) we had actual snow. We may have had a foot and a half but it was a lot easier to shovel and maneuver around in. The snow plow crews here in Southern Indiana have no idea what they are doing. We haven't had any precipitation in over 24 hours and the roads were still crap when I drove to work this morning.

I voted for your blog. And as for the guy talking smack--there's a time and place for violence in pick-up basketball, and sounded like you picked a right time and place, heh. Calling you an "old man" to try to cover up his suckitude was a low move.

I voted for you guys in hopes of seeing you in bikinis throwing down a "shooter".

Oh yeah, let us know if you voted because then you'll be in the running for the prize(s)...if we win.

I used to talk a lot of trash back in the day but I would never call anyone 'Old man', that's just too much. If you would have seen my reaction when he said it you would have thought I had my heart ripped out.

Yes, that girl is cute. I don't even care that her "assets" aren't in full view because she is so damn cute!

1. I should have lowjacked that kid and
2. You are hard to match because of the salt and pepper hair.
3. We are probably 6 to 8 years older than the kids we are playing.
4. I still feel the midranger in my fingertips.

when you get called 'old man' for the first time...you'll see what i mean. Cuts to the core.

Kind of the opposite here. I was getting my hair cut the other day and the lady asked me how school was going. I had to laugh and tell her I graduated college in '01. I might have to join in for tommorrow's games. That is if you haven't kicked me out for saying "no" too many times.

She was just working for a little extra on the tip.

if you want to wait fifteen years, all the games will be on the NFL network, anyway (no, i don't really believe that).

i've never been called an old man, but having my father give me a blank stare during my last birthday after telling him my age and having 16 year olds call me "sir" is... disconcerting.
