Lackluster Efforts - The St. Louis Cardinals wasted a few opportunities over the past few days to take over 1st place in the NL Central. Instead, they are now 2 games under .500 and 3 games back of the suddenly resurgent Brewers. The Cardinals were swept by the Arizona Diamondbacks and did not take advantage of a great opportunity to leap frog both the Cubs and the Brewers. The Cardinals continue their marathon stretch to end the season this week with 4 games agains the Cubs and 3 games against the Reds. Needless to say the season could depend on this series against the Cubs.
GOAT - If you ask me, this moniker definitely belongs next to Roger Federer's name. By this time next year he will undoubtedly have tied or surpassed Pete Sampras' record for most career Grand Slam titles. He currently sits at 12 after winning the US Open title yesterday and has to get to 14 to tie Samprass. Federer won a major championship in straight sets, again. He showed no mercy to young and upcoming Novak Djokovic. Djokovic became one of the fan favorites after a nice little comedy performance a few days ago after a match. Still, that did not help him against Federer. Djokovic pushed Federer to the limits in the first two sets but was unable to break the champ, falling 7-6(4), 7-6(2), 6-4. So, is Federer the Greatest Of All Time? I think so....
Are You Ready for Some Football? - I'm pretty sure the majority of the American males have been frothing at the mouth for the last 2-3 months awaiting for what finally took place yesterday, the official start of the 2007-08 NFL Season. Overall, it was a pretty good day. We learned some new things and others were just re-iterated. Like the Patriots are freaking good, the Browns couldn't be Appalacian St, Sexy Rexy still would rather pimp bitches than through a tight spiral, and Brett Favre drinks from the fountain of youth. The Colts started their defense of the title by smashing the Saints, and the Chargers may be alright with Norv Turner at the helm. Prayers go out to Kevin Everett of the Buffalo Bills, who suffered a spinal injury.
I Am Tiger, Hear Me Win - What can you say about Tiger that hasn't already been said? He's f'n great!
This Steroid Deal Has Some Legs - It's never going to go away is it? It's always going to haunt our dreams. Nothing will ever be sacred again. More and more players continue to jump on this HGH/Steroids bandwagon that has been stirring over the last week. The latest name to be put into the fray is Jay Gibbons of the Orioles. I can completely see that. He was a no name who had a great season a few years ago and then somewhat disappeared again after testing began. In the last week we've had Ankiel, Glaus, Harrison, and now Gibbons called out for use of performance enhancing drugs. I have a feeling this is just the beginning. All of these guys should be ashamed, except for Ankiel. he's a God that can do no wrong!
Wow, I'm Good! - What can you say about A-Rod that you can't say about Tiger. He's f'n great too!
Elite Company - Curtis Granderson joined an exclusive club over the weekend. He became only the third player to compile 20 stolen bases, 20 home runs, 20 triples, and 20 doubles in season. He joins Willie Mays and Frank Schulte in the club. You know you've accomplished something great when your name can be said in the same breath with Willie Mays and .....Frank Schulte????? Who the hell is that? Well, at least you're in there with Willie.
Loserines -I couldn't be happier to NOT be a Michigan Wolverine fan right about now.
Parking A'int Cheap - Especially for this guy who apparently doesn't give a shit about anything!

I don't think Ankiel's use of HGH should put him in the same boat as those that are alleged to have used the cream and the clear.
It'll be interesting to see if Kerry Wood, Mark Prior, Derrek Lee, or Mark DeRosa's names are on that list or any other list that may come out in the future.
