Before I start tackling what exactly happened last night, I have to cover some 'old news'....or at least update it. After being a huge dumbass on Monday after the game, Carlos Zambrano had a sit down with Cubs Management and decided he was going to apologize to the fans.
"The first thing I want to do is apologize to the Cubs fans," Zambrano said.
"There were some moments [Monday] when I was angry. When human beings are angry,
they say a lot of things they shouldn't say, and I am human. I made a mistake,
and the thing about me is that when I make a mistake, I know I have to apologize
and do the correct thing.
"This comes from my heart. I love these fans. I
love the Cubs fans. I think they're the greatest fans in baseball, and you know,
they have the right to boo people or to do whatever they have to do because
they've been waiting 99 years [for a World Series championship] and sometimes we
don't do a good job and they get frustrated too.
"I apologize to all
those who read the paper today and were offended at what I said. ... I think the
next four starts I'll do the best to be Carlos Zambrano, and the one thing I
started today was with my hair."
Zambrano was referring to the blond highlights he had put in his hair at the
start of August, after winning the NL Pitcher of the Month award in July. He
went 0-5 with an 8.29 earned-run average in his six starts with the new hair-do,
so he cut his hair and went back to his old style.
You know what pisses me off? That's not even a real apology. If you are going to apologize, apologize to everyone...not just those who were 'offended'. So, he's not sorry for what he said if you weren't pissed about it? Wrong. What he said was stupid. (this rant was more of a disclaimer since I say the same thing whenever people supposedly 'apologize')
So here is probably what happened. Cubs Management probably went to Z and reminded him just who is paying that $91 million dollar contract he signed and also reminded him that....he's around for five more seasons. That's a long time to be around a group of people who dislike you. Just ask Shaquille O'Neal. Boom! See how I threw that in there to give you guys another link to check out? Bam!
Alright, so Zambrano apologized, but whatever, I don't really care. He was probably a little right in his assessment as fans at Wrigley have become more boisterous the past couple of seasons. Still, an apology was needed to save some credibility on the Cubs Organization/Management. I only hope a string of wins will follow.

they booed a lot last night. is there any way the whole team can apologize for crapping the bed two night in a row? or maybe just kill Will Ohman
I believe they sent out letters in the mail?
Hmmm. Z is right. He is a human. Humans say stupid things. If he were a monkey, he would simply throw poo.
Right on on the apology deal. Just leave off the "offended" part.
Forget the apology since its not sincere, just win and everything will take care of itself in the end.
but he is sincere....so sincere that he changed the color of his hair
Jack, last time a Cards pitcher changed his hair color we thought he had mental probs and he ended up on the DL
What thre freak happened to Tyler Johnson????? He went from slinging unhittable curves in the playoffs last year to not doing a whole helluva a lot this year!
Tyler Johnson does not play for the Cubs...
Jack, if Tyler did play for the Cubs maybe there would be 1 person who may understand the BigZ
