Stagnant team or clever disguise

The Colts almost always lose their preseason games.
2007_johnson_2.jpg I don't know what upsets me more, watching the Colts mail it in or seeing guys on the field I don't even know exist.  Dungy always looks comically bored.  Which is saying something since he normally looks comically disinterested.  Ed Johnson's performance at defensive tackle was the only real bright spot on defense.  It may have been an indicator of why the Colts have been unwilling to explore through free-agency or trade the solution to the loss of Booger McFarland.  Freddy Keiaho was tackling well which is no surprise but he did look a little lost on pass plays.  Playing time is just about all that will fix that.  Marlon Jackson looked good in run support, but for the long-time fan you will remember his preseason debut against the Bills a couple years back when, on the Bills' first play, he squarely planted Eric Moulds into the floor.  He has never looked back.  A great tackler I see good things for him this season as a starter.. Hagler looked good back from injury but he is still a backup and in all honesty, may be too small to be a real impact player.  Sorgi was mediocre at best and poor in reality.  He has never been a good producer and Betts touchdown may have been a signal that Sorgi is getting ready to move around on the depth chart.  Still, the game showed me little as I was unable to really evaluate the backups at running back and determine if Gonzalez is going to make immediate impact.  He showed flashes, but the Colts tip none of their hand in the preseason and I just can't say if he will be up to speed.  In addition, Ugoh looked bad against Ware when Ware brought double moves.

In other news, head over to Arin it Out to see the product of The GM's latest homework assignment on the Colt's draft strategeries.

Check out this Mike Chappell column that got lots of interest from Mosely on Hashmarks.

Pray for Cobra and I as we enter into the unknown.  Our softball team, that wins games more on guts than talent, got moved up into the big boy's division and we fully expect to get it handed to us.  We could use all the help you can give us.

You know, it has to be tough for the Colts to be matched up with the 2008 NFL Champs in their first pre-season game. Anyone would have been demolished....(Cowboys fan here)

The real aggravation for me watchin them play the cowboys was that our guards have just recently figured out how to block the two gap 3-4 pass rush and clearly not perfected it. More athleticism is an absolute requirement for the colts at the guard position as Manning ages. Didn't see enough of my boy Anthony spencer to make a good determination on him, though.

Bruce Paine,

I like your columns on the Colts. They are succinct enough for the casual fan like me to check out at my leisure.

Keep up the good work.
