I was trying to figure out exactly what I was going to write this morning as I drove into work. I had two choices, 1) rant and complain or 2) relax. Seeing as I'm going to the Cubs/Cards game next Saturday with Buck Rampage and don't want to be a mass of frustration....I'm going to relax for now, and so should you....and so should the Cubs.
Look, they aren't playing well right now. All of those two out RBI hits they were getting a month ago are gone. Winning without hitting home runs seems like a thing of the past. Sean Marshall becoming the next Andy Pettitte seems like a pipe dream at this point. We had a guy start in left field last night who hadn't played the outfield before this season. All of that being said, the Cubs are still only one game behind Milwaukee with a lot of games to go. It's not time to start jumping off of buildings, so let's just relax. If you continue to worry about all of this you are going to drive yourself absolutely crazy. None of us want that. We don't want you to throw things at your TV or yell at the neighborhood kids because D-Lee has turned ice cold.
Maybe go out and water your lawn, take your kid to the park before school starts, take your wife/girlfriend to go see The Bourne Ultimatum. It's OK to miss one or two games. Actually, I'm telling you to skip a few. The Cubs made a huge run the last two months and that took a lot of energy. There was bound to be a little bit of a letdown. When players are out of energy they get a few days off, you deserve one as well. Go take a few days and enjoy yourself, especially since Summer is almost over.
After you take that break....come back stronger than before because the Cubs are going to make at least one more run and they are going to need all of us to get the job done.
*For those of you wondering about my thoughts about something else that happened last night.
*Also, for those of you who read my post about Jeff Samardzija, here is an update on his first start in Double A.

thank goodness the Brewers suck just a bad. Cubbies lost four or five and only dropped a game to Milwaukee. On another note, can't wait for todays chick blog.
I'll be honest with you, I had to edit that post. i thought the brewers won last night. They were up when I went to bed.
HAKUNA MATATA!
The Cubs are a talented team and will hang in there without Soriano. Besides, isn't he expected back around Labor Day? That's only a few weeks away.
If the Cubs can just get past this week, they have St. Louis and Cincy at home next week. Their only real competition is the Brewers, who have problems of their own lately, and you guys get them at home at the end of the month. Get past this week with a few wins, and the Cubs will be fine.
You have enough talent to make other fans envious. You have Zambrano going for Win #15 tonight vs. Oswalt. And if that isn't enough, Kerry Wood is back....is he staying in the bullpen, or do you think if he's healthy he'll be put in the starting rotation?
Not time to panic.
They should still be beating up on the Astros.....Wood will stay in the bullpen. There is 0% chance he will go to the rotation. They might call up Sean Gallagher from AAA-Iowa this week to start in Colorado to give the starters/bullpen a break.
I thought they called up Gallagher for Ohman?
Correct, they did. They are going to be using him in long relief but he might make a start later this week.
I have something on Ohman for later.
Here's something to take your mind off baseball....
'The sport of emperors and vagabonds,'
starting August 29th ...

(Off topic, but a fun diversion)
The bats will get red hot in Colorado. I agree--just relax.
But my favorite part is this: "I was trying to figure out exactly what I was going to write this morning as I drove into work."
LOL!!! Do it on corporate time, baby!
ha! Yeah, it's a 40 minute drive so I don't have much else to do during the drive in.
This Ohman piece should be good. Can't wait for it. I'm a bit pessimistic on Soriano's return. They moved it back from 2-4 weeks to 4-6 weeks. Who knows what the next evaluation of him will tell. But, we'll see what happens.
