By now all Cubs fans know that Will Ohman has been shipped to Iowa *cough, cough* so the Cubs could recall Sean Gallagher. Initially I really didn't think this was going to be that big of a deal. I know that Ohman is a veteran player, but he's been pitching like crap, so something had to happen. I start to read the rundown of what happened and I come across this:
But after manager Lou Piniella and general manager Jim
Hendry discussed the reasons for the move, Ohman told reporters he was going to
Chicago to have team physician Stephen Gryzlo check out his left shoulder.
Ohman was asked why he didn't just go on the disabled list
if his shoulder was hurting, instead of waiting to announce it after he was
demoted?
"Have you seen what I've done for the last month and a
half?" Ohman asked. "I was doing just fine. I've had two rough games
back-to-back. Before that, I've been getting outs.
Ok, this is where I start to get a little pissed about the whole situation. Yes, Ohman has been pitching a little bit better, but there is a reason for that. Lou has been putting him into cake situations where the guy can't possibly screw things up, at least until this past week. On top of that, the entire bullpen (which is exhausted now) has had to carry the dude all season long because he hasn't been able to do his job. I mean, I understand why he's on the team. He has been pretty reliable the last two seasons, but this season the guy has been complete crap. Ok, so I think Ohman's quote is crap, you've got that.
The next part that I'm pissed about is that he's 'apparently' been pitching with a jacked up shoulder. Look, I'm all for courageous efforts and stuff like that, but if you are injured you are supposed to let the team know about it. You know why?? So you don't make it any worse. Let's say Ohman has been pitching with a jacked shoulder for the past two weeks. Each time he's thrown a pitch he may have been injuring it more. While Ohman hasn't been good this season, he could turn it around next season....but not if his damn shoulder is injured! If you are hurting.....tell someone. Plus, it would have given the Cubs an easy out on why they were sending him out of town, but as you can tell from the quote above....they knew nothing about it.
Ok, last thing and this is just something that is going to potentially piss me off. What if his shoulder isn't hurting him and he's just lying about it. That is what is really going to piss me off. First, we can't trust the guy to get on the mound and get hitters out and next we can't trust the guy to be a man and actually take a demotion like....a man. Instead he has to make up some story about his shoulder hurting?
The point of this post is this: If you are injured tell someone because you are hurting the team either way and.....be a man if you get demoted. Don't sulk around Chicago for two days going to the doctor for some fake injury. Last but not least....produce, you are getting paid to do that.

I knew this was going to be a good one as soon as I saw the title. I'm all for letting Ohman go completely. I was a bigger fan of Cotts as a lefty in the bullpen when he was there to start the season. Ohman was right behind Jacque Jones on my shit list.
the only problem is Lou likes Cotts about as much as chlamydia so he's never coming back - and deservedly so as he sucks in Iowa as well-8.74 era in his last ten appearances.
I have to say, I had high hopes for Cotts. I wonder if the Cubs will take a look at Mike Myers, who the Yanks just cut, if the starters begin throwing more innings.
Myers is great except for the fact he couldn't get any lefties out (.312) and of course he's a left and that was his alleged skill. I'd rather have Prior pitch with his arm in a sling.
