Cubs in First.....Feeling Good

Murton 'Different Day, Different Hero'. I'm telling you guys, someone needs to print up some t-shirts with that slogan on them and sell them outside of Wrigley. You would make a fortune, I can almost guarantee it. If I lived in the city I would do it....and then I would graciously give Jack Cobra 25% of the profits for coming up with the slogan...

Welcome back to Chicago, Matt Murton. I can't say we really missed you while you were gone, but we sure loved having you back last night. What a game. First, Rich Hill absolutely struggles through 4 2/3 innings. I'm not even sure what to say about that. He's pitched decent of late and had a 4-1 lead to work with going into the fourth inning and he couldn't shut the door. He is young, so maybe he'll learn. I know Zambrano had those same issues when he first came up. Next, the bullpen threw 4 1/3 shutout innings while giving up....one measley hit. That's how it's supposed to be done. Finally, the Cubs manufacture the winning run in the ninth off of a bloop double by Murton, two walks to load the bases and the winning run scored on a wild pitch. That is what usually happens AGAINST the Cubs. The tables have turned Mr. Karma, the tables have turned.

So, the Cubs are now in first place, what to do now? I wrote up a little 'tongue in cheek' post about what to expect over at Epic Carnival, so check that out. Let's not get ahead of ourselves though, there is still a lot of baseball to play and a lot of things can happen. I'm not saying don't be happy, because it's been a long road to first place....but let's make sure we (Cubs fans) aren't content with where we are.

The Cubs need to get a game ahead of Milwaukee and just make that lead grow. Lou and the gang head into Houston next week for a three game set, so that would be a nice series to sweep....especially after playing the Mets this weekend. The following week the Reds and Cardinals come into Wrigley and that is followed by a trip to San Francisco, so there is an opportunity there to win quite a few games.

Let's just keep winning and see what happens.
