I have not written much about the Braves lately. Mostly I have been busy, but also due to their constant pissing me off as a fan. So far Atlanta's second half has been about as good as my golf game right handed, throwing up a beautiful record of 22-23 since the all-star break. Our last 10 games have been considerably subpar with a record of 4-6. It has been entirely frustrating to watch and just see us never even hinting at gaining any games on the dirty metropolitans. Over the past few days, I watched the Phillies play New York. I learned three things this week; 1. The Phillies are a strong team. 2. Pat Burrell is on fire. 3. The Braves may actually have a chance to close this gap and make something out of this season yet.
This is the way I see it...over the next month, the Braves play the Mets and Phillies a combined total of 12 times out of the next 28 games. The other 16 games are played against the Astros, Marlins, Nats, and Brewers. Combined, the Braves have a 18-15 record this season against these teams. At first glance, not that steller. Howver, the Braves play 10 of these 16 games at home, and have a winning percentage against these teams in Turner of 0.636. This definitely poses the thought of them doing something interesting this last month.
The bottom line is that the Braves have to play well this month. They need to take 2 of 3 in each of the series against the Phillies and Mets, and they have to beat the teams that they are supposed to beat, ie Marlins, Nats, Astros...If they can do that, I see Bobby Cox and the Braves with another Division Title in their grasp.

Yep, you read that correctly. Could that mean that Jason Marquis is on his way out of the rotation possibly? Probably not. I'm guessing the Cubs picked him up to make that spot start in St. Louis later in September... Continue Reading
