Weekend Shenanigans

AP PHOTO Big Bats A Plenty -Albert Pujols and the St. Louis Cardinals started the second half slowly but awoke from their brief slumber to belt a combined six home runs against the Philadelphia Phillies in a 10-2 win on Sunday. Pujols, who had went homerless in 74 at bats prior to the All-Star Game has broken out in a big way, hitting 4 homers in the last 3 games. The Cards got smoked in the first two games at the launching pad that is Citizens Bank Park, but returned fire on Sunday.  The Cards have seven games remaining on this road trip against the Marlins and the Braves. They must continue the play that was displayed on Sunday in order to stay in the hunt in the NL Central.

Freeny Gets Paid -Dwight Freeney scored a six year, $72 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts on Friday. Freeney also received a $30 million signing bonus in becoming the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. The Colts, a team not usually inclined to pay big bucks on the defensive side of the ball made a good decision here by holding onto their franchise player. Not only does Freeney bring great talent to the field but he is also loved by the Colts fans.

Beware Carnoustie -Phil Mickelson blundered away a great shot at victory on Sunday by hitting, well a crappy shot. Mickelson had a one shot lead going into the 72nd hole of the tournament but was unable to keep that lead after finishing with a bogey. This led to a playoff with no-namer Frenchman Gregory Havret. On the re-do attempt, Mickelson again flubbed it up, getting another bogey to lose on the first playoff hole. Mickelson now probably has visions of Winged Foot dancing in his head. They're exactly the visions you don't want heading into the British Open.

Ricky Williams Taints Everything and Everyone -Miami Dolphins wide receiver Chris Chambers was pulled over around 2:30 AM on Saturday in North Carolina. Turns out that Chambers was drunk, speeding, and reckless. Never a good combination when behind the whell of a vehicle.

Three Things in Life Suck: Drunk Drivers, Cubs, andComa's- What sucks worse? Damaged vision and hearing, or not being able to remember that your teamwon the World Series? Most likely the latter.

Bugs Don't Like Aluminum -The baseball bat industry is introuble
