I don't like Michael Vick. I live in Indiana,
and saw every home game Drew Brees ever played. During the 2001 NFL draft Mike Vick's extreme physical talents took the news away from the completeness of the Boilermaker and pushed him down to the second round. Still, I acknowledge the uncanny nature of Vick's ability. People now are amazed at the distance JaMarcus Russell gets on his deep ball, well Vick had that back then and he had Favrian velocity. We marvel at the speed and escapability of Reggie Bush, but Vick has all the moves and he has better top end speed and acceleration. Bush has great acceleration, but Vick has awesome acceleration. I have been collecting tape for a later article that I tentatively call, "Real Speed" where I am sitting down with a sprinter from IU and a Division 1 tailback and letting him break down the speed of high profile players in the league. He always comes back to Vick as the example of the total speed package of burst, agility, and top end. Physical dynamo Vick is, but he is also a conduit for venereal disease and will soon be a prison bitch (hopefully). Don't proceed to the full story unless you are prepared to witness the result of the kind of thing Mike Vick is into.

Michael Vick has now been indicted for dogfighting in the
case the Feds were building against owners and operators of Bad Newz Kennels in Surry County, Virginia. He and his aliased cohorts are in deep shit, and I hope they get the book thrown at them. Mike Vick may go down in history as the biggest waste of talent EVER. I could break down his game, talk about his recognition skills, accuracy, and delivery, but I don't care about him anymore. I am tired of Michael Vick. He makes headlines when he wins and he makes them when he loses. We have had to suffer a lot of uninteresting Mike Vick news in the last decade and almost none of it is positive. I don't care if he had an unfortunate upbringing in Newport, I don't care if he is just an OG trying to make his way
in the big bad world. He and his buddies torture dogs and behave in a manner of organized crime and I certainly hope they are going to jail. By the way, the guy who's thunder Vick stole in 2001 was the 2004 comeback player of the year and the runner up in 2006, one of the most prolific passers in the game today, was the best academic athlete in college was better than both of the QBs ahead of him in Heisman voting in 2000 and he and his best friend were the NFL Walter Payton Men of the Year. No, it isn't a black or white thing, it isn't a rich or poor thing. It is a statement of character. A man of poor character is no man at all, he is a simple thug, and we must move towards a place where we stop celebrating them. Bruce Paine loves animals, hates Mike Vick, and hopes that this serves as a cautionary tale. Matt Shaub is gone but maybe Daunte Culpepper is free.

2008 Cubs Preview
Nicely put.
I understand that hindsight is 20/20, but I think you would have had a tough time telling anyone that Brees had a brighter future than Vick coming out of college. He did lead VT to the National Championship Game....
The point of the article, about Vick being a crap human being, is dead on though.
Just to let you all know. I am dropping the name of Ron Mexico and switching over to "The GM"...Because I don't want to be included in that negativity! And the fact that when I read the headline I almost got mad...for a second!

erin - thank you, your succinct reply is a credit to your grace and charm.
Jack - I was screaming that to Hot Tub, Charles, Luke, Keith, and just about everyone that would listen. Vick took a team that was deep at many position to a championship game. Brees won the Big Ten with 2 offensive linemen (Matt Light and Chuki Okobi, and 2 defensive ends in Akin Ayodele and Chike Okeafor) . I knew then he was going to be better because Vick was clearly then (as he remains now) a one read and go quarterback who cannot read safeties or routes swiftly enough to get the ball downfield or exist in the pocket. He shows signs on occasion, as he did then, but (as a reat auhtor once said) "Sometimes signs are signs and sometimes they are lies". brees as a junior was a four read quarterback who lacked a great arm but produced with a great mind and great vision. I marched around for days at a time yelling that Brees would be the next Joe Montana and was REBUKED! REBUKED I SAY! No more. Drew Brees is the second coming of Joe "I am going to go upstairs and masturbate" Montana and only history can judge me now. Brees has good feet, excellent form, a slow release (like somebody else), marginal velocity (ditto), amazing accuracy (bing!) and limitless intangibles and leadership ability. I KNEW IT THEN! Homer pick? Yes. Correct? Absolutely
