Mike Maroth had a helluva game in his Cardinals debut on Monday night against the New York Mets. Maroth went 7 1/3 innings allowing one run on two hits. Maroth also picked off two runners, slapped a single, had a successful sac bunt, and picked up his first MLB stolen base. I’m 99% positive he couldn’t have asked for a better performance. But, it was all for naught as the Cards could not generate any runs to back him up. Shawn Green pulled off the heroics of the night by hitting the game winning home run against Russ Springer in the Bottom of the 11th. I along with all Cardinal fans would love to see this exact effort every time out from Maroth. Hell, we’d like to see performances half as good as this one, seeing as that it was still 72 times better than what Kip Wells usually gives us.
I watched the first 4-5 innings of that game while working out and I believe my Dad can throw harder than Maroth. Not even my Dad in his 20's, my Dad right now at age 50. I've seen wiffle balls thrown harder than some of the crap Maroth "The Moth" was throwing up there.
I saw he was barely throwing over 80 mph. Still he was effective somehow and that's all that matters.

Maybe we should change his name from Maroth to Mike Sloth. His pace is so slow. "The Moth" actually fits as well since his pitches sort of just flutter up to the plate. Although, he did get the win lastnight. Can't complain about that.
Actually Mexico, the Cards lost on a walk-off homer by Shawn Green.

My bad, I was chasing some tail when I made that comment. He pitched well enough for the win!?!?

He pitched well enough to NOT win, because he plays for the Cardinals. The same team that split the I-70 series for the season with the ROYALS, only after pulling out a 14-inning win. Still outscored by the Royals 40-31 in the 6 games, yes those same Royals who give you washed up starters like Odalis Perez and Scott Elarton (now on the DL). That is about enough said about that....you guys can send us some prospects for Reggie Sanders any day now!!!
