The Herald-Times in Bloomington is reporting that Indiana University Head Football Coach Terry Hoeppner passed away this morning. The crew here at Cobra Brigade send their thoughts and prayers to the Hoeppner Family and Friends. More to come from Bruce Paine.
Update from the Indy Star:
He passed away at 6:50 a.m. in Bloomington Hospital, the spokesman said.
Hoeppner had returned to the hospital, the school said Friday when it announced that Bill Lynch would coach the football team this season.
Hoeppner had a tumor removed in December 2005 and had a second surgery in September 2006.
"Coach died due to complications from the brain tumor for which he had been treated surgically and therapeutically over the past 18 months, " said Indiana University team physician Dr. Larry Rink. "His family was at his side."

That is sad, but not unexpected, news.
I give IU much credit for the way they handled this situation. They probably knew how it was going to end, but they refused to bail on the coach or speculate about his future with the team.
Thanks for the coverage from the Cobra Brigade, as well.
It takes a special coach to turn around a program but it takes a special person to do that and completely change the culture of the program and the followers. Coach Hep was one of those special people. What an amazing job he has done with the program and the community. His stats at IU may not be the best around but he did a lot more than just win a few ball games. Coach Hep got Bloomington. Great job by IU in handling the situation.
I've been putting off writing too much about this because I know that Bruce Paine will, but....I'm a Notre Dame fan at heart, but mostly not too much of a college football fan. I live in Bloomington and I have to say that when Coach Hep came to town he brought an electricity and a verve that this town hadn't even sniffed since Bobby Knight left. Like Hoosiernation said, he did a lot more than win ballgames. The program was in the doldrums when Hep showed up and through his tireless work and effort it was finally starting to turn around. It's sad he won't be around, physically, as IU marches towards a probably bowl bid this season.
